Notes

"Le Beau, 8 London Terrace, Hackney Road"

Timothy Edmund Le Beau (1798-1868) was Beard's second licensee. He was the first to use bromide of lime as an accelerator in the daguerreotype process. There are eight daguerreotypes known by his hand, nine including this one. He was active at London Terrace from 1848-1855, possibly longer.

He was 56 years old when he made this image. By then, he had been married four times. He had five children by his first wife. When she passed away, he remarried the following year. Two years into their marriage, she passed away. He remarried the following year. Six years later his third wife passed away. He then married the daughter of a corn merchant the following year. In 1859 she walked out on him, after which he advertized that he would not be paying for any of her bills. Nine years later Le Beau passed away, his wife followed two years after.
